Sweet tea recipe: strong black tea, sugar while hot, ice. Peach tea variation for the front porch.

Ingredients
- 8 cups water, divided
- 6 family-size black tea bags (or 12 regular)
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup peach nectar or 2 ripe peaches, mashed (optional, for peach tea)
- Lemon wedges and mint, to serve
- Ice
Steps
- Bring 4 cups water to a boil. Take it off heat, add tea bags, and steep 5–8 minutes. Don’t boil the bags.
- Fish out the bags without squeezing them hard. Stir in sugar while the tea is hot until it dissolves.
- For front porch peach tea, stir in peach nectar or mashed peaches now.
- Add the remaining 4 cups cold water. Chill until cold.
- Pour over ice. Lemon and mint at the table.
How to make Southern sweet tea
1) Boil water and steep black tea 5–8 minutes. 2) Stir in sugar while the tea is still hot so it dissolves. 3) Dilute with cold water. 4) Chill. 5) Lemon and ice at serve.
Front porch peach tea
Make the classic pitcher, then stir in peach nectar or muddled ripe peaches while the tea is warm. Chill hard.
